In the interest of the health and well-being of the citizens of Limestone County and other surrounding counties, at the April 10, 2021 meeting, the Board voted to cancel our in-person celebration this year. Notification was sent out accordingly.
While the number of COVID-19 cases decreased, there is still, the possibility of a super spread of the virus due to the B117 COVID mutant strain as well as the Brazilian strain. We have continued to follow the spread of the virus and the numbers are now climbing. The Delta strain is spreading fast and is now in 41 states including Texas. Individuals who have been vaccinated are 88% protected from the virus. The Delta virus is now considered the dominant and dangerous strain. Contrary to the fact that the state of Texas is open, the Pandemic is far from being over. The Board and its officers do not feel it will be safe to host an activity that involves such a magnitude of people from all over the world to congregate at this time. We cannot ensure safe and proper social distancing at an event such as this. Another prime factor considered when making this decision is that we cannot validate that those coming into the area have been vaccinated. Although this is a very difficult decision, we feel it is the best decision to protect those we are honoring, the residents of Limestone County, our first responders, entertainers, as well as citizens of other surrounding counties.
We are truly prayerful that you will understand this difficult decision the Board had to make.
